Microchips and Your Lost Pet
One-third of pets get lost at some point in their life and may wind up in a shelter, but only 22% are ever reunited with you. Shelters would be more successful in returning pets to their owners if microchips were used. Even knowing this only 5% of pets have microchips.
Microchips can be implanted into your pets at The Animal Clinic of Michigan City. This would allow them to be returned to you if your pet ever runs away or gets lost. The microchips have an individual number that a reader reads and the manufacturer can then let the veterinary clinic or shelter know who the pet belongs to. Also, the microchip gives each pet a permanent identification, like a passport and social security number.
All proceeds from microchip implantation at The Animal Clinic of Michigan City go to The Michiana Humane Society. www.michianahumanesociety.org

Shown above is a picture of a microchip (not actual size) It is placed under the skin between the shoulderblades.

The scanner/reader is passed over the shoulder area to scan for a chip. The chip will send it's number back to the scanner.
